Hood Packaging Corporation is one of North America’s fastest growing packaging manufacturers with facilities located across the United States and Canada. Like all successful companies, Hood Packaging owes its success to its humble beginning at one paper packaging facility which was dedicated to producing quality packaging products and providing customer satisfaction. Those same principles have guided the company since it began at that Yazoo City, Mississippi facility in 1978, when it was known as Southern Bag Corporation, Ltd.
As time passed, the company broadened its customer base and continued its dedicated approach to business based on quality and service. Its reputation in business began to expand and in 1991, it acquired two paper packaging facilities located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and Hamlet, North Carolina. Another acquisition quickly followed in 1992 with the addition of a paper plant in Valdosta, Georgia. With these acquisitions, Southern Bag Corporation became a major packaging manufacturer and began expansion far beyond simply being a southern-based manufacturing company. In 1995, Southern Bag opened a state-of-the-art graphics pre press and printing center in Anniston, Alabama. In 1996, Southern Bag achieved another milestone when it acquired flexible plastic packaging facilities located in Marengo, Illinois, St. Paul, Minnesota and Grand Forks, North Dakota. Growth continued in 1997 as the company acquired paper plants at Pittsburg, Kansas and Wilmington, Ohio, and in 1998 it acquired a flexible plastic packaging facility in Decatur, Georgia. It continued its growth in 1998 by acquiring a paper packaging facility in Charleston, South Carolina.
Through the result of all these acquisitions, Southern Bag had expanded both its geographic base and its manufacturing capabilities, thereby becoming one of the leading packaging manufacturers in the United States. Yet, the company still desired to grow and in 2000, its parent company acquired six plastic and paper packaging plants in Canada and one in Tyler, Texas. With over 100 years of bag making experience behind them, the Canadian bag plants provided the technical know-how, product diversity and global reach needed to help make Southern Bag a larger presence in the marketplace.
With facilities now located throughout the United States and Canada, the company was renamed Hood Packaging Corporation, which held the distinction of being the world’s third largest supplier of multiwall paper packaging, one of the top 50 US suppliers of consumer plastic packaging, and the leading North American producer of industrial plastic packaging.
In 2005, Hood Packaging acquired a paper packaging facility in Monticello, Arkansas with the goal of transforming it into the most state of the art multiwall plant in North America. The Yazoo City and Pine Bluff operations were consolidated and relocated to the Monticello facility. Still not content, in 2006, Hood Packaging acquired a fully- integrated plastic packaging converter with facilities in Montreal, Quebec and Cornwall, Ontario which specialized in the manufacture of liquid packaging. In 2010, Hood Packaging acquired American Synthetics in Goose Creek, South Carolina, thus enhancing the manufacturing capabilities of their existing woven polypropylene product offerings.
Hood Packaging Corporation’s growth, however, has not just been through acquisition. Boasting certification to the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System standard in nearly all of its operations and an enviable reputation for industry-leading quality and service, Hood Packaging has emerged as the company of choice for packaging buyers who put a premium on purchasing packaging that arrives on time and works. With the best graphics and printing capabilities in the business, Hood Packaging is a leading player in those markets where print excellence is a must. Still small enough to have the personal touch, but large enough to serve the most demanding customers worldwide, you can consider it done at Hood Packaging Corporation. |
